Get yourself an expensive one, they’re much easier to solder.

Cable with 4 cores of around 2 meters in length (what ever you prefer).

Just get it where it’s cheap

Look for audio cable thickness (so not 230v/110v cable).

Power cable mains voltage with the correct plug

Just get it where it’s cheap

Nice to have

Power light indicator. I placed it after the 5v fuse so it also serves as an indication for a blown fuse.

NOTES:

a) There’s no housing included in this overview. I used something like this: https://images.app.goo.gl/zs9ueWc8XAFD65xs8 costs around 2 euro’s and fits the setup without any problems. Heat isn’t a concern here.

b) You need some obvious general goods like, solder, heat shrink, hot glue if you have it, wires (prototyping wire, what ever). I really suggest you get the heat shrink tubing as isolate everything as much as possible.

c) The Mean Well 5v switching powersupply board has a pretty serious capacitor (the big one). Short it after you’re done testing (and everything is unplugged) so you don’t zap yourself.

d) When you’re done test the voltages with a multimeter before plugging it in your c64! Don’t short the pins in you DIN plug with your probes as you’ll have to replace the fuse (maybe order a couple fuses just to be safe?).

e) You started testing with you c64 and the monitor gives the usual flash but no basic prompt and the c64 LED isn’t burning? You switched the 5v rail polarity, no worries you didn’t break your c64, fix it and try again.

f) You’re measuring around 11v~ on the 9v~, that’s fine it will drop when there’s a load on it. You c64 can easily handle 11v~
